Māori Land March

Today we learnt about the Māori land march, what it was, when it happened, how it happened and why it happened. We read a text about the Māori land march and then answered questions on a doc about the land march. We then made a google draw about a different protest. We had 3 protests to choose from, Bastion Point, Pākaitore Moutoa Gardens and Ihumātao. I chose Bastion Point.

RISE Values

Today I made google drawings of our RISE values at Rāwhiti School. Our first RISE value here at Rāwhiti is Resilience – the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. Our second RISE value is Integrity – the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Our third is success – the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Our last value is empathy – the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

On my google draw I added a picture of that Rise value, the kupu Māori, the definition and what my definition of it is.

Here is my first google drawing, resilience.

Here is my second google drawing, integrity.

Here is my third google drawing, success

Here is my last google drawing – empathy.

Today in Te Reo Maori we learnt about the difference between the word ‘taku’ and the word ‘toku’.

‘Toku’ is used for people or things that have authority, control or influence over the possessor, also for parts of things, feelings and abstractions or qualities while the word ‘taku’ is used for people or things over which the possessor has or had authority, control or influence.

Firstly, we copied down the things that went in to the Toku and Taku categories and put them on a slideshow with pictures relating to the things.

Here is my slideshow:

Afterwards we did a work sheet where we had to translate kupu and then put them into either the ‘taku’ or ‘toku’ category. I got one wrong which was the word ‘moenga’ which I mistranslated and put into the wrong category. I put it in the ‘taku’ category when it was meant to be in the ‘toku’ category.
